Austin Campus Center duo presents budgeting session

Jolene A. Lampton, Ph.D., assistant professor of management accounting at the Austin (Texas) Campus Center, along with Austin student Donald Jenkins (a senior majoring in management), presented a parental session on "Budgeting for Higher Education" as part of a service project recently. This is the fourth year that Lampton has been invited to participate.

Faculty present at Innovation 2008 Conference
Evelyn Knowles and Kathleen Kalata presented, “A Model for Enhancing Online Course Development” at Innovation 2008: The Real and the Ideal on April 15, 2008 in Breckenridge, Colorado. Quality Matters certifies six online courses

Six online courses were certified by Quality Matters in April. Park University now has 28 online courses certified through Quality Matters. Quality Matters is considered to be the national standard in quality assurance for online course design. It is the standard for 121 institutions in 31 states.

Ockerstrom, Wood present papers at modern language convention

Lolly Ockerstrom, Ph.D., assistant professor of English, and Jane Wood, Ph.D., associate professor of English and department chair, each presented papers at the Northeast Modern Language Association Convention, April 10-13, in Buffalo, N.Y.

Venable wins drawing for Royals workout day
William Venable, assistant professor of marketing and management, won the recent drawing to represent Park University in the Kansas City Royals' Workout Day at Kauffman Stadium event on July 1. Venable will have the opportunity to eat lunch in the clubhouse, participate in batting practice and outfield shagging, and play in a two-hour simulated game. Venable will also receive a uniform and baseball cap.

Bachman appointed to social work task force

Gary E. Bachman, associate professor and field director in the Department of Social Work, was recently appointed by the Council on Social Work Education to a joint task force on veteran affairs.

Williams presents paper at English conference

Cynthia Williams, assistant professor of English, presented a paper at a College English Association conference focusing on migration, movement and passage in literature, March 28-29 in St. Louis.


Christopher speaks at Homeland Security conferences
Kenneth Christopher, D.P.A., assistant professor of criminal justice administration, was invited to speak at a pair of national conferences on Homeland Security, April 2 and 3, in Kiawah Island, S.C., and St. Louis, respectively.

Christopher first spoke to military, government and business leaders on the role of law enforcement in seaport security at the Institute for Defense and Government Advancement's Maritime Homeland Security Conference, then at the United States Coast Guard's Area Maritime Security Committee Conference. Both presentations discussed best practices in the efficient integration of resources in maritime security planning.

Faculty make presentation at Online conference
Marthann Schulte, Ph.D., coordinator of Online faculty evaluation; Cathy Taylor, J.D., assistant professor of management and Online instructor evaluator; and Heather Zeng, Ph.D., assistant professor of psychology and Online instructor evaluator for the College of Distance Learning, delivered an Online presentation on "Developing Online Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Programs for Distance Degree Programs" during the 13th annual Technology, Colleges and Community Worldwide Online Conference on April 15.

In addition, Taylor and Zeng presented an exploratory paper on the same subject during the conference. The paper discussed best practices for developing Online student mentoring programs, as well as ethical and legal issues in mentoring, focusing on Online learners. The paper was also published in the TCC proceedings.
