Goals and Objectives

Initial goals and objectives were established by the Master Planning Commission on November 21, 2005. Goals and objectives are currently in draft form and will be refined and updated.

Goal 1: Create a master plan that emphasizes connections on and beyond campus.

  • Connect with Park's diverse and multi-cultural student population
  • Strengthen the connection to Parkville while maintaining a distinct sense of community on campus
  • Create communal space on campus, perhaps by re-envisioning the student center and/or library
  • Embrace the emerging "Global Institute"

Goal 2 - Balance tradition with innovation.

  • Develop exterior design guidelines that recognize Park University's duality as a historic institution with a contemporary focus on distance and on-line learning

Goal 3: Promote ease of accessibility.

  • Acknowledge students with disabilities; provide safe convenient access to buildings
  • Increase ease of attending evening classes
  • Consolidate functions for ease of access

Goal 4: Promote Park University as a destination.

  • Create campus "friendly" for visitors
  • Accommodate events like "camps," conferences, and career fairs
  • Position parking for easy access, and clarity of zoning for functions

Goal 5: Shape a campus that is pedestrian centered rather than automobile oriented.

  • Create clearly defined pedestrian paths
  • Clarify wayfinding
  • Consider alternative transportation modes to link downtown and Parkville campuses

Goal 6: Acknowledge and promote a unique and beautiful campus setting.

  • Preserve Park University's natural beauty
  • Acknowledge and celebrate the bluff side location
  • Promote the integration of art on campus
  • Utilize principles that encourage a healthy attractive environment (including sustainable design principles)

Goal 7: Set a standard of quality for future construction/renovation.

  • Encourage the use of interior design guidelines that bring buildings up to par with current classroom standards
  • Establish exterior design guidelines that convey a sense of quality and permanence

Goal 8: Develop Park University's potential as a residential campus.

  • Accommodate the kind of functions that create a dynamic campus community

Goal 9: Better accommodate the basic functional aspects of campus life.

  • Provide adequate and appropriate teaching venues
  • Provide adequate and appropriate office space
  • Provide adequate and appropriate space for adjunct faculty
  • Provide adequate and appropriate storage space

Goal 10: Accommodate growth and allow for change with a flexible Master Plan.

Objectives:

  • Locate student housing which has already been planned.
  • Identify and locate the Global Institute.
