A new art exhibit featuring metal works has opened at the Campanella Gallery at Park University.
The exhibit, "Transitions in Fe and Other Sculptural Elements," by George Rousis will run through April 25 on the University's Parkville Campus. A reception for the exhibit is scheduled for Saturday, April 12, from 7 to 9 p.m.
More than 20 pieces will be on display, including furniture, jewelry, sculptures and prints on paper and copper.
"It's a very diverse collection of work," Rousis said. "Everything is different, but it all sort of ties together in its organic nature."
Rousis has a bachelor's degree in fine arts with an emphasis on studio art and photography from the University of Maryland, and he attended the Maryland Institute College of the Arts, where he studied metals and wood.
"In my photography, I was photographing a lot of textures and old metal," he said. "It would be years later that I saw the connection."
Rousis has worked as lead artist/blacksmith for Austin's Ironworks in Kansas City, Mo., since 1999.
The Campanella Gallery is located in the McAfee Memorial Library in Park's underground Mabee Learning Center, which can be entered through Millsap Foyer. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
