Nursing School Health FairBy Summer A. Evans - May 16, 2005 - 3:30 pmEmail this article | Printer friendly page | Media Inquiries
More than 200 faculty, staff, students and community members attended this year's fair that offered free blood pressure and glucose screening, as well as information on exercise, healthy eating, men's health, self breast exam, depression screening, stranger danger and dental care for kids. The Health Fair is a part of the NU 260 clinical course capstone project. Based on the population health objectives as noted in the Healthy People 2010 document, the federal guideline for improvement of population health in the United States, the nursing students are responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating the results of the event. "The health fair was a wonderful success," said Gerry Walker, assistant professor of nursing. "This year's students demonstrated a tremendous about of creativity and skill. They designed, implemented, and evaluated the health fair with minimal faculty input."
