New graduate degree prepares students to be effective communicators and leaders.

Students who enroll in Park University's new Master of Arts in Communication and Leadership program will learn how to better serve in corporate, military, non-profit, government and political settings.

The new graduate program-kicking off its first term on Aug. 22 at the Parkville campus-is only one of two communication programs based in the immediate Kansas City area.

Students who earn a Master of Arts in Communication and Leadership from Park will gain effective training in communication and will be uniquely qualified to provide innovative leadership within the global community.

The Master of Arts in Communication and Leadership creates a natural bridge between the two disciplines; key elements that are not typical in many graduate programs.

"The curriculum begins with the premise that communication is the essence of effective leadership," said J. Mark Noe, Ph.D., director of the Master of Arts in Communication and Leadership. "This graduate program is designed for professionals who wish to build on their current career skills, advance to a new position or organization, or desire personal enrichment."

The primary goals of this degree program are:

* To provide an understanding of the centrality of communication in all aspects of personal and organizational life
* read and conduct research and apply the principles to their own organizations
* To provide a forum for the exchange of ideas between students and organizational leaders concerning the requirements to achieve excellence
* To provide a historical overview of leadership perspectives
* To foster an awareness of the communication styles and values of different cultures and how these factors influence business in a global environment
* To combine theoretical knowledge and practical skills to resolve organizational issues and improve decision-making
* To develop a framework for ethical conduct in contemporary organizations

Students can choose to complete their degree in the traditional face-to-face format, Online, or a combination of both approaches.
