Associate Professor of Psychology Dennis D. Kerkman is joining with the Mexican government to evaluate a new, hands-on science education program for elementary school children.

The program involves more than 4,000 children in the Northeastern Mexican state of Tamaulipas.

Kerkman (pictured right), along with Texas State University Professor David Stea (pictured left), have been working for two year on this project with Hector M. Cappello from The National University of Mexico.

"These kids are great! Our part of the project is to be external evaluators, to see if their basic attitudes and ways of thinking about the world are becoming more scientific as a result of this new program where they get to do their own experiments, instead of just reading about somebody else's," said Kerkman.

Kerkman and Park psychology students will be analyzing the data from this research project and presenting their final report to Cappello during the fall semester.
