Andrew Johnson, Ph.D., associate professor of psychology and department chair at Park University, received the Excellence in Teaching award from Missouri Gov. Bob Holden during the 2004 Governor's Award for Excellence in Teaching luncheon on December 1, 2004 in Columbia, Mo.

Johnson, one of 73 outstanding faculty in Missouri from postsecondary schools, colleges and universities, received the award for his effective teaching and advising, innovative in course design and delivery, service to the University's community and commitment to high standards of excellence.

Johnson holds bachelor of arts degrees in psychology and Spanish from Missouri Western State College, and a master of science degree in psychology and a doctoral degree in psychology from Kansas State University.

During his address, Gov. Holden praised Missouri higher education and the award recipients. "This year's award recipients exemplify the ideal of quality education," Holden said. "They are committed to upholding a standard of excellence and improving the lives of Missouri citizens by educating and inspiring the individuals around them."

The event was held in conjunction with the 2004 Governor's Conference on Higher Education.
